The biggest WWE event of the year hits the big four-oh this year, with Wrestlemania XL marking a major anniversary for the annual wrestling exhibition when it takes place on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7.
Wrestlemania 40 moves to Philadelphia this year, and it's a major event in a few ways. It's the last Wrestlemania not to be airing on Netflix in most places around the world, plus it's the first Wrestlemania to be organized by WWE's new parent company Endeavor (which also does UFC). Most importantly, it'll mark the wrestling return of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson after eight years away.
Unlike last year's Wrestlemania, there's no specific theme for Wrestlemania 40, but that doesn't mean the match cards are any lighter than ususal. There are due to be at least 13 matches over the two nights of wrestling.

The WWE’s biggest event of the year is here with WrestleMania 2024. This year’s event features 13 matchups, including seven title bouts, spread over two nights on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.
While all the WWE superstars are expected to participate in WrestleMania, night one featured Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s return to the squared-circle in a tag team match, as he and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
Night two of WrestleMania 40 features Roman Reigns vs. Rhodes in an undisputed WWE Universal Championship title main event. There will also be a World Heavyweight Championship match between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre.
In 1985, the World Wrestling Federation launched WrestleMania, the Super Bowl of professional wrestling that helped WWF become the dominant force in sports entertainment. Nearly four decades later, the WWF is now the WWE, but WrestleMania remains the flagship event of the company, which it describes as “the showcase of the immortals.” This year, WrestleMania 40 is coming to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Lincoln Financial Field. And it’s happening at a time when WWE is hotter than it’s been in ages.
The reason for WWE’s resurgence in popularity isn’t the return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson or even the fall and disgrace of former owner Vince McMahon. It was the post-pandemic booking of Roman Reigns and the Bloodline that elevated that group and their rivals, including Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn, into larger stars. The emergence of LA Knight, the return of CM Punk after a decade away, and other factors also played a large role. But the primary reason is that the booking of Paul “Triple H” Levesque delivered the compelling storylines and characters that were sorely lacking during McMahon’s final years in charge.
Staring in 2020 with WrestleMania 36, the event expanded into two nights. That’s why WrestleMania 40 will take place on April 6 and 7. Now, for the benefit of anyone who wants to know, we will tell you where you can watch both nights of WrestleMania 40.
This edition of the historic event is WrestleMania 40, playing out at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday and Sunday, and the card is stacked.
The main event of night one saw Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson competing fully in WWE for the first time in 11 years, as he teamed with his ‘cousin’ Roman Reigns to beat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Due to The Rock and Reigns’s victory, the latter’s Universal Championship defence against Rhodes – the main event of night two – will be ‘anything goes’, meaning plenty of weapons and interferences.
Also on night one, Rhea Ripley retained the Women’s World Championship against fellow megastar Becky Lynch, while record-breaking Intercontinental Champion Gunther lost his title to Sami Zayn. There was also a six-team ladder match for the Undisputed Tag-Team Titles, and brothers Jimmy and Jey Uso went head to head in a match years in the making.
On night two, Rollins will defend his world title against Drew McIntyre, with CM Punk providing guest commentary, and Logan Paul will be in action against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.
